Tip for Substack Mobile Glitch
For Substack Writers
This one’s for the Substack writers.
There have been a few times where I gave wrote an entire article on the Substack mobile app, then saved the draft to come back to later. This has usually been the case when I don’t have a picture or graphic ready to go and plan to create one later.
Then to my surprise, when I came back to the drafts, the article draft was there, but the body of it is completely erased. And all I’m left with is a title.
Feeling discouraged, I’ve often just given up and have not rewritten the article. Sending me into a spiral on whether or not Substack is for me.
Half the time, my computer is not in front of me when I get the creative spark to write, so I’ve started on the mobile app.
Has this ever happened to you?
Don’t panic.
There’s a work around. I found it on reddit.
Here’s the trick:
—> Open your mobile web browser (chrome, safari, etc.)
—> Go to substack’s website and sign in.
—> Click on your profile pic on the too right corner.
—> Go to Dashboard.
—> Scroll down to your drafts and click your draft.
—> There’s a history button on the bottom left corner that looks like a circle arrow clock.
—> Click on that history button and select the timestamp from when the article was fully written out to restore that version.
Voila!
…
The more sustainable solution, however, is to draft your blog in another mobile app like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Learn from my mistakes. I recommend doing this to have a secondary place for your articles to live. This way if you ever get locked out of your account, have your account removed, want to move your blog to another platform, etc.; you will have copies of your work ready to go.
I hope this helps my fellow Substack writers, especially those who are just starting out.
