How To Remove Skin Tags Naturally
At-Home Remedy Using Essential Oils
Skin tags can be pesky and unsightly little things. “Skin lint” feels like a better nomenclature for this benign derm-accessories.
Maybe I’m vain, but if the skin pilling is unwanted then read on.
But First… Disclaimer
I am not a medical professional or beauty professional. I am simply your semi-crunchy bestie sharing my holistic at-home remedies with you that have worked for me. If you have medical concerns, please see a licensed professional. If you just have a lot of skin tags, you may want to see a professional anyway for the convenience of having multiple removals done for you. If you have sensitive skin, do a skin test or dilute the essential oils or go see a licensed professional. If you have any other skin conditions, consult a medical professional. When in doubt, go see a doctor.
My Skin Tag Experience
I do not have any chronic skin conditions. My skin is brown and not very sensitive.
Sometimes, a skin tag will emerge. My armpits are their favorite spot.
The neck, groin or other skin fold areas are other generally susceptible locations for skin tags.
My issue with these skin lints arising particularly on my armpits — besides my finding it unattractive — is I shave my armpits. I don’t want to be cutting skin tags and dealing with blood and the stinging pain that follows.
No, thanks.
When I first got into the world of essential oils and their remedial benefits, another mom shared her recipe to melt away skin tags.
I paid special attention because who has time to wait a year to see a dermatologist for something so miniscule.
Disclaimer On Essential Oils
Not another disclaimer! I know, I know. But we’ve got to have them because liability, big pharma and consumer safety.
Essential oils are not all created equal. (I’ll create another post on this topic).
Many essential oils that you find at a store are meant for aromatic use only. That means you can only use them to make your house smell good usually with a diffuser.
Please, read the labels. Oftentimes, the essential bottle with specify the intended use and what not to use it for; i.e. “Aromatic use only. Do not use topically.”
If the label says it’s safe to use topically — AKA on your skin — then you should be good, unless you have sensitive skin or a skin condition as mentioned prior.
The Essential Oils I Use
I use Young Living Essential Oils. They make oils that are safe for aromatic, some topical and some ingestible uses. Again, please read the labels. I cannot stress this enough.
When Young Living states that an oil is okay for a specified use, I’ve never had an issue. I have been using this particular brand since 2016. I love the products so much, I became an associate distributor.
I’m not super active in selling, but if my sharing helps to offset the cost of my monthly order — yes, I order monthly — then I’m all for it.
The main ingredients in the following recipe are oregano essential oil and frankincense essential oil.
Oregano essential oil is the actual main ingredient to rid yourself of the skin tag. However, oregano essential oil is considered a “hot oil” and may cause a burning sensation.
That’s where a carrier oil enters the chat to dilute the hot oil. Any carrier oil such as coconut oil, Young Living’s V-6 Complex Oil, Almond Oil, etc. This will dilute the oregano essential oil taking away that burning sensation.
In addition Frankincense essential oil is another layer to soothe the sensation.
The Recipe And Application
Let’s cut to the chase already.
Here’s what I use for skin tags:
Oregano Essential Oil (topical use approved)
Frankincense Essential Oil (topical use approved)
Q-Tip: 1 for each skin tag
Coconut oil or other carrier oil
Here’s how I use it:
Wipe the skin tag area clean with soap and water. Pat dry.
Add 1 drop of oregano essential oil and 4 drops of coconut oil and carrier oil in a small sterile dish.
Dip one end of a q-tip into the mixture.
Press and hold the oregano oil q-tip bulb on the skin tag for at least 10 seconds.
Add 1 drop of frankincense essential oil to the other end of the q-tip.
Press and hold the frankincense oil q-tip bulb on the skin tag for at least 10 seconds.
Repeat this application twice a day; morning and night preferably after bathing/showering. Do not cover the skin tag with a bandaid or any other direct covering/dressing.
The skin tag should fall off on its own within 3-5 days.
If the remedy is unsuccessful after 10 days, please see a physician.
Stop use if your skin becomes irritated.
If you experience an unbearable burning sensation, apply coconut oil or other carrier oil to wipe off the essential oils. Water will not be as effective since water and oil don’t mix.
